If you’re anything like me, chances are that you’ve looked in the mirror and thought wow, I look tired! Most of the time this has nothing to do with how much sleep you get, but instead with how dark your under-eye circles are. Dark circles under your eyes can make you look tired even if you get plenty of sleep, and make your eyes look sunken in and old before their time. Here are three natural ways to get rid of those pesky dark circles today!
1) Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a remedy for a number of things. Many people use it as an all-purpose cleaner or natural toner, but it can also help you get rid of dark circles. You should apply apple cider vinegar with a cotton ball under your eyes as soon as you wake up and then leave it on while you go about your day before washing it off in the evening. Repeat nightly until the darkness subsides. If you want a more gentle approach that has no side effects and won't irritate sensitive skin, try rose water. Simply mix one teaspoon of organic rose water with two teaspoons of aloe vera gel in a small dish. Dab this mixture under your eyes and let it dry before rinsing off in the morning.
2) Coconut Oil
In a small bowl, stir together one teaspoon of organic coconut oil and two teaspoons of raw honey. Add a drop or two of lavender essential oil for an extra boost. Gently pat the mixture onto your dark circles, making sure not to put too much on so it doesn't melt off your skin! Remember, if you live in a colder climate it's always good to warm up the oil and honey by mixing it in your palms for about 30 seconds before applying. You may also want to try adding a little bit at night so it can soak into the skin more deeply rather than trying to pat it on over makeup during the day. As always, remember that overdoing any kind of skincare product can actually make dark circles worse! So start out slow by only using this remedy once or twice a week until you see some results. It's best to use this solution at night because it will give your under-eye area time to absorb all the wonderful benefits while you sleep!
3) Eye Creams
Treating dark circles is about two things - dealing with the underlying cause, and reducing the appearance. Drinking plenty of water, protecting your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, getting at least seven hours of sleep every night, and eating a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids can help prevent them from getting worse. And don't forget to smile! Seriously. When you smile muscles around your eyes will contract and circulate blood under the skin giving you a brighter appearance overall. Plus it's proven that laughter really is the best medicine when it comes to curing what ails you. We all know how great it feels to laugh, so why not do it as often as possible? It's true that this is a fairly temporary fix, but there are other natural methods for keeping dark circles away.
